Award winning folk and blues guitarist Chris Thomas King returns to Portland for a showcase at Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Avenue, on Sunday, March 4, at 8:00 pm. Based in Louisiana, King is a successor to the authentic blues tradition of Leadbelly, Muddy Waters, Mississippi John Hurt, and Mance Lipscomb, yet he offers modern twists on the blues with inclusion of hip hop and digital aesthetics. Perhaps best-known for his portrayal of Delta bluesman Tommy Johnson in the Coen Brothers’ film O Brother, Where Art Thou, King has received several Grammy and CMA awards.
This is a fully seated show, 21 and over only. Tickets can be purchased in advance through Ticketfly.com for $18.00, or at the door for $20.00.
