Bob Log III

Bob Log IIIThe Owl Magazine explains that, “[o]ne would have to be in a pretty foul mood not to be entertained by the mysterious awesomeness of Bob Log III. Sure, his musical skills are something to behold, his one-man-band brand of blues/Americana displaying dexterity, creativity, and plenty of good old rock ‘n’ roll, but then there’s his wacky persona.”

Bob Log III is not your average musician. Appearing on stage in a jump suit and hidden behind a racing helmet with a phone receiver attached working as a mic, he showcases his dexterity at performing as a one-man band with guitar and kick drum while singing vicious blues, Americana, and rock. Loud, strange, and electrifying, he’s like Jerry Lee Lewis crossed with a little of Tom Waits’ heavy industrial sounds.

Too Slim And The Taildraggers - Unplugged

Too Slim And The Taildraggers - Unplugged

Music Mondays presents “Story Tellers,” an intimate evening of acoustic music with Too Slim and the Taildraggers. Based in Boise, ID, the band is known for an eclectic style of blues and rock that has become a genre all its own. Band leader Tim “Too Slim” Langford’s ever-evolving musical direction cannot easily be classified and effortlessly crosses musical genres, mixing blues and rock with Americana, and appeals to audiences of varying musical tastes.

Graham Clarke from Blues Bytes describes Too Slim as “not only a master of slide guitar, but . . . also a supremely talented performer and composer who ranks with the best that blues/rock has to offer.”

Too Slim and the Taildraggers, Lake Theater & Café, 106 N State St, Lake Oswego. Monday, July 15. 7:00 pm. Tickets at laketheatercafe.com are $15.00 general admission, VIP Tables are $100.00 (seats 4, located in lower section closest to stage). All ages.

The Record CompanyThe Record Company’s story is well-known: after gritting it out for years in bars and clubs, a trio of musicians join forces in LA, set up some microphones in a living room, and cut an album that turns the world on its head. Released in 2016, Give It Back To You spawned three top-ten hits, earned the band a slew of headline dates around the world, and garnered a Grammy nomination. The critical response was ecstatic — Rolling Stone raved that “the band kick(s) up a raw, rootsy racket.”

Even at their first jam session, it was clear that the trio was on to something special. With a sound that blended the biting blues of John Lee Hooker with the charismatic swagger of the Rolling Stones, they took the stage at Madison Square Garden just eighteen months after recording their debut album. The band returns with a new disc, All Of This Life, that is quickly bringing even more crowds to venues around the country.

Shinyribs

Shinyribs

Shinyribs is the continuation of former Gourds band member Kevin Russell’s musical journey that began in Beaumont, TX when, at 14, he found his father’s guitar under his bed. The band is a river of country-soul, swamp-funk, and tickle. A Shinyribs show is an exaltation of spirit. It’s a hip shaking, belly laughing, soul-singing, song-slinging, down-home house party. All styles of American music are likely to be touched on, squeezed on, kissed on by this world-class band featuring Winfield Cheek on Keyboards, Keith Langford on Drums, Jeff Brown on Bass, the Tijuana Trainwreck Horns, and The Shiny Soul Sisters – Kelley Mickwee & Alice Spencer. Whether on his 6 string Uke, his Electric guitar or singing a cappella, Russell entertains like no one else. The freedom with which he moves, coupled with his incredible voice is an experience in and of itself. Original songs laced with magical-realism along with novel interpretations of popular songs old and new are the true art that runs throughout. He’s Burl Ives meets Al Green; Hank, Jr. meets Teddy Pendergrass; Wendell Berry meets Chuck Berry.

Dante’s, 350 W Burnside St. Tuesday, June 25. 9:00 pm. $17.50 Ticketweb.com. 21 & over.

Roy Book Binder

Roy Book BinderRoy Book Binder has the goods: original, bare-knuckle, low-down blues. Who can say he was friends with the Rev. Gary Davis, Pink Anderson, and Robert Lockwood Jr. and toured with Arthur Big Boy Crudup, Hot Tuna, JJ Cale, and Bonnie Raitt? Roy can. He has the stories, the licks, and the mystery of timeless music in his fingers. He’s been featured on a PBS special and interviewed by Terry Gross on NPR’s “Fresh Air.” He’s also a regular at Fur Peace Ranch, where he teaches along with Jorma Kaukonen. When he brings his “Tour Bus” to town, a one-man blues-fest ensues. He plays and entertains, feeding us music and stories, and the evening is a celebration for us all. We’re privileged to have Roy here to preserve and extend the tradition of great American blues music. (James Hipp)
