Brother Yusef Catfish Lou’s Offers Late Night

Brother Yusef

Brother Yusef has been described as a master solo guitarist, as well as a uniquely passionate vocalist. His performances are as raw, honest, and as real as the genre can be. Honed over thirty years, he calls his multifaceted style, “fattback blues” for its rich mix of Delta , Chicago, and Texas blues alongside a hard driving Louisiana stomp. Fattback Blues combines “traditional” fingerpicking and slide guitar playing with the contemporary feel of urban blues, rock, and funk.  He uses his right hand thumb to beat out a percussive bass-line and shuffle, while the index finger plays rhythm and lead lines, creating a full band sound with a solo guitar.

Catfish Lou’s, 2460 NW 24th Ave. Friday, May 24, 7:00 pm. $7.00 at the door.

Fly Me To The Moon Organization

Fly Me To The Moon Organization

On Sunday, May 19, four of Portland’s most beloved musical acts will take the stage to raise money for Fly Me To The Moon, a new nonprofit organization that delivers live music performances to seniors in assisted living, retirement communities, and memory care facilities.

Organization founder and producer, Dean Mueller, hopes to raise funds and create awareness of the program through this concert. To showcase the music, Mueller selected the newly renovated Alberta Abbey, a community arts center in NE Portland, to host the show. The lineup includes the Duffy Bishop Band, 3 Leg Torso, Aaron Meyer, and Julie Amici.

Fly Me To The Moon was formed in partnership with the Oregon Music Hall of Fame (OMHOF) in 2018.  “The scientific evidence supports what we have always suspected,” Mueller said, “that music can stimulate feelings of joy and harmony in seniors.”

Alberta Abbey, 126 NE Alberta Street. Sunday, May 19, 6:30 pm. Tickets available at Squareup.com $25.00 general admission, $35.00 VIP in first five rows.

Matt Brown

Judging from his music, Matt Brown is an old soul. With a voice seasoned by influences such as Ray Charles and Bill Withers and guitar styling steeped in the tradition of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brown’s artistry is filled with as much blue-eyed soul as his baby blue Fender Telecaster, “Stella Blue,” can hold. Based in Nashville, singer-songwriter Brown returns to his hometown for a concert with his trio and special guests. Matt’s signature blend of blues, rock, and soul has won him fans across the country and a record deal with Rock Ridge Music.

John Németh & The Blue Dreamers

John Németh & The Blue DreamersDrawing from the strong influences of blues and R&B as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll, John Németh creates original music that is both personal and universal. John’s songs are groove and melody driven, laced with thoughtful lyrics and nuanced humor, and cover themes from social issues of gun violence and class values to the pure hedonistic joy of dancing, sexuality, and marijuana. He creates his songs from melodies and phrases he draws from the sounds of life, from early-morning Memphis songbirds to the din of the city. Németh’s striking tenor vocals are already legendary, with a pitch-perfect purity of range and power that has drawn comparisons to soul singers from O.V. Wright to James Brown. He keeps that power under a tight leash, letting it rip at just the right places to benefit the song. Németh is also a very accomplished harmonica player who can boogie with the best of ‘em.
