Horn From The Heart - The Paul Butterfield Story

Horn From The Heart - The Paul Butterfield StoryHorn From The Heart – The Paul Butterfield Story is a feature-length documentary about legendary blues musician Paul Butterfield — a white, teen-age harmonica player from Chicago’s south side who learned the blues from many of the original black masters. The interracial Paul Butterfield Blues Band, featuring the twin guitars of Michael Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop, drummer Sam Lay, bassist Jerome Arnold and keyboardist Mark Naftalin, added a rock edge to the Chicago blues that struck a chord with the rock fans and rejuvenated interest in the blues. The only artist to perform at The Newport Folk Festival in 1965, The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and Woodstock in 1969, Butterfield broke new ground in the blues and stood firm for racial equality until his death in 1987 from a drug overdose. Through his music and words, along with first-hand accounts of family, bandmates, and friends, this film tells the complex story of a man many call the greatest harmonica player of all time.

Paul Thorn

Paul Thorn

Tupelo Mississippi bred singer and songwriter Paul Thorn grew up in the shadow of Elvis, but the greatest influences on his life were his pentecostal preacher daddy, who taught him how to respect and serve people, and his pimp uncle who schooled him on women and how to throw a punch. Both gave him the stories and confidence to build a music career his own way. He grew up singing in the church and later fought his way to a respected national ranking as a middleweight boxer. Thorn’s pentecostal religion forbade attending concerts, but singing at the altar since he was three years old prepared him for singing on the stage. Thorn has been pleasing crowds for years with his muscular brand of bluesy and rocking roots music; he truly is a Southern storyteller whose life has lent him plenty of tales to tell.

Bones Owens

Bones Owens

Bones Owens has been writing songs since the mid nineties when posters of Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix adorned his walls. The rural Missouri native found music to be his connection to the outside world, away from the otherwise desolate landscape of corn fields and gravel roads surrounding him. Discovering an interest in literature and storytelling in his teenage years, Bones attended college where he studied English and creative writing before dropping out to accept his first publishing deal in Nashville. True to the posters on his wall as a kid, Bones’s sound is a combination of blues-based rock-&-roll mixed with the angst and edge of the alternative records he grew up on. His shows are at one moment blisteringly loud and aggressive, and the next moment giving pause to a more sensitive story song before kicking you in the gut again with a cranked up Marshall stack.
