Ayron Jones and The Way

Ayron Jones“There’s nothing more American than rock ’n’ roll,” Jones explains in the Seattle Times, “And in this time period, we need it now more than ever. Regardless of who is responsible, there’s divisiveness in this country that we’ve never seen since the civil-rights era. Rock ’n’ roll embodies that American blues soul and spirit. Our generation, as Millennials, has forgotten what it means to play rock ’n’ roll.”

Featuring his most confessional and rocking songs yet, Ayron also embellishes with fiery blues licks and booming hip-hop vibes, and his ferocious heavy rock contrasts impeccably with his honeyed nuanced ballads.  Jones has gotten and given a lot of thrills opening for major acts such as Guns N’ Roses, B.B. King, Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, Rahkim, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Spearhead, and many more; and at festivals like SXSW, Sasquatch, and Bumbershoot. He describes the feeling like no other, being on stage front and center with thousands of people watching.

Ural Thomas & The Pain

Ural Thomas & The PainIf life were at all fair, Ural Thomas would be a household name; his music slotted into countless sweet, seductive mixtapes between James Brown, Otis Redding, and Stevie Wonder (all with whom Thomas has performed.) Straddling the line between hot soul shouter and velvety-smooth crooner, Thomas released a few singles in the late 60’s and early 70’s; most notably “Can You Dig It”, which featured backing vocals from soul luminaries Merry Clayton, Mary Wells and Brenda Holloway. Thomas played over forty shows at the legendary Apollo Theater before turning his back on an unkind business and heading home to Portland, OR. Ural Thomas has become a Portland icon, inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and renowned for his energetic, spell-binding performances with a velvet voice smooth as fine wine. Help him celebrate his 80th birthday with a show that will also include sets by Nick Waterhouse, Covi, and Adam Pasi..

Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark St. Saturday, December 21, 8:00 pm. $20.00 at Revolutionhall.com. All ages, 21 & over on floor, minor seating in the balcony only.

GreyhoundsGreyhounds are the Austin trio of Anthony Farrell (vocals, keyboards), Andrew Trube (vocals and guitar) and Ed Miles (drums). Many music fans remember Farrell and Trube as key members of JJ Grey’s band MOFRO for many years. After parting with Grey in 2016 to focus full-time on Greyhounds, the band has only left the road to record and release two full-length records.’ Cheyenne Valley Drive is a product of a band at the height of their game, making music in a studio that has been virtually untouched by time, recording in the style that many of their musical heroes used. Basically a dream come true. A dream they want to share with you.

Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Ave. Saturday, December 21, 8:00 pm. $15.00 Eventbrite.com. 21 & over. Seattle’s Caitlin Sherman and Portland’s Redray Frazier open the night.

Little Hurricane

Little HurricaneThere’s so much fire and spit spewing out of Little Hurricane songs that you’re fairly sure that they’ve ticked off the devil and they’re on the wrong list. This gritty twenty-first century blues-rock duo out of San Diego, formed when guitarist and vocalist Anthony “Tone” Catalano answered a Craigslist ad posted by drummer Celeste “CC” Spina. They shared a common interest in both the blues and vintage musical equipment and their ragged, passionate sound evolved almost instantly. They have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, and recently released their fourth album, Love Luck.
